Passamos agora à actividade do clube recente. De 2011 há um artigo titulado
GOLF Moments You Never Forget … (No. 13) - Clube de Golfe de Polana - Playing in Mozambique ended after 16 holes – now after 9!

Well, flags didn’t exist. They are too precious to be left standing around. Greens and tees, yes. No markers. Cut grass? Of course. Roughs? From Maputo to Beira. Clubhouse? Yes, a burned war ruin. But they had more than 100 caddies. And my banknotes were not small enough for the greenfee. Get to know the Clube de Golfe de Polana in Mozambique‘s capital Maputo. It’s great golf in a botanical garden, with old and blossoming trees. To show you the hole, a forward caddy will stand over it on the greens. No ball gets lost, because the roughs are alive. Playing is great fun, but it ends after the 16th green. No 17th and 18th. Basically yes, you can see or feel the original layout. But peasants grow corn and other cerials on it. Plowed the fairways, planted the greens. The socialist revolution made farmland out of the two-hole-finish of the rich men’s sport. I miss the holes, but I like it. What a donation to poverty! My caddy said (in Portuguese): „Now we play the 1 and 2 instead of the 17 and 18.“ Recently the farmers have claimed the second 9 holes. The great colonial golf club Polana of Lourenço Marques is now the proud half golf club Polana of Maputo …

Golf in Mozambique
There is a golf course in Maputo, just north of the city close (1km) to the beach, between the airport and "super mares". Though the standard of the course is subpar. The course has 18 holes (if I remember correctly).
The villagers of the surrounding villages often cross right over the fairway, so watch out. Laundry going on in some of the water obstacles. Also I once had to wait for my shoot until a young boy had hearded a flock of goats past the tee. There used to be problems at hole nr 3 where players got robbed (by the small house) , but to my knowledge that has stopped now.
When you arrive you will be more or less attacked by the wannabe caddies and "ball collecting boys" wanting you to hire them for the round. You will also be offered (aggresively) to hire clubbs and purchasing balls. The "caddies" and ball collectors will also aid you in the game by improving your lay when you turn your back to the ball, so you will remember how well it went when you hired them.
The driving range is comprised of the tee and fairway on hole nr 1 (I think), the ball collecting boys stand right in the fairway to collect your balls. Safety not high on the agenda. You must patiently wait for your next shoot until he have found and collected the ball from your previous shoot.
No club house to speak of, but it is possible to by softdrinks. The green fee was about 15 dollars in 2005. No green card needed. It is unclear who manages the golf course, but the grass is reasonably well cut.
If you wanna play serious golf, look elsewhere. But if your in for an incredibble (different) experience and a good story it is a must! I recommend it highly. So it is a "nice" golf course, though a diffent kind of nice than the thread-starter probably intended :-)
