Golf in Mozambique
There is a golf course in Maputo, just north of the city close (1km) to the beach, between the airport and "super mares". Though the standard of the course is subpar. The course has 18 holes (if I remember correctly).
The villagers of the surrounding villages often cross right over the fairway, so watch out. Laundry going on in some of the water obstacles. Also I once had to wait for my shoot until a young boy had hearded a flock of goats past the tee. There used to be problems at hole nr 3 where players got robbed (by the small house) , but to my knowledge that has stopped now.
When you arrive you will be more or less attacked by the wannabe caddies and "ball collecting boys" wanting you to hire them for the round. You will also be offered (aggresively) to hire clubbs and purchasing balls. The "caddies" and ball collectors will also aid you in the game by improving your lay when you turn your back to the ball, so you will remember how well it went when you hired them.
The driving range is comprised of the tee and fairway on hole nr 1 (I think), the ball collecting boys stand right in the fairway to collect your balls. Safety not high on the agenda. You must patiently wait for your next shoot until he have found and collected the ball from your previous shoot.
No club house to speak of, but it is possible to by softdrinks. The green fee was about 15 dollars in 2005. No green card needed. It is unclear who manages the golf course, but the grass is reasonably well cut.
If you wanna play serious golf, look elsewhere. But if your in for an incredibble (different) experience and a good story it is a must! I recommend it highly. So it is a "nice" golf course, though a diffent kind of nice than the thread-starter probably intended :-)
